In its first ever submission for an environmental award, Knelson Concrete Systems has won Honorable Mention for NRMCA's Environmental Innovation Award for 2003, presented January 31 at the NRMCA Annual Convention held this year in San Diego.
An expansion of the Environmental Excellence Awards for concrete producers, this inaugural Environmental Innovation Award recognizes manufacturers and engineers for creative ideas and innovations that result in increased environmental protection.
The Knelson submission was based on the results of the Knelson Concrete Recovery System installation at Corliss Concrete, in Sumner, Washington, a brand new facility built on the 50-year-old original plant location. With a 16-bay maintenance building and four aggregate silos, each having capacity of 2000 tons, the Corliss plant is a monument to doing it right.
Dave Beckham, Product Founder and Principle Design Manager, was on hand to accept the award on Knelson's behalf. He is pleased with the Association's recognition of the Corliss installation.
"Scott Corliss was determined to build a state-of-the-art facility, and that included the most advanced concrete recovery strategy available. He was so convinced in the Knelson process, he purchased CRS when it was still only an engineer's drawing," remarks Beckham.
For Scott Corliss, the risk has paid off. Says a satisfied Scott: "Yes, we bought an idea; but we got everything Knelson promised and more. We couldn't be more pleased."
The CRS at Corliss has run without major incident for over six months. It is evidence for the concrete industry that continuous process operation is now possible and has, as such, merited the affirmation of the NRMCA and many other industry peers.
